Saldana Confirmed as Uhura

Star Trek casting announcement

We reported the rumors about Zoe Saldana’s casting as Uhura in the upcoming Star Trek movie. Today Paramount Pictures officially announced that Saldana to play in in the movie. The original role was played by Nichelle Nichols.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the story is written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, revolves around the crew's early days at Starfleet Academy.

The film is set for a Christmas Day 2008 release.
