Sony's Football Drama Rules Over De Palma's Dahlia

Sony's Dwayne ''The Rock'' Johnson starrer football drama Gridiron Gang landed in the No. 1 spot this weekend, scoring $15 million at the B.O., reports Variety.
Universal Pictures-produced Brian De Palma thriller The Black Dahlia took $10.4 million and landed in the second spot.
"We're a little disappointed," U distrib topper Nikki Rocco said of the Dahlia performance. "If I had a crystal ball, every indication was that we'd have a solid opening, and this performed a little less than what we'd hoped it would be." The studio had acquired the pic for around $11 million.
Fox's animated film Everyone's Hero debuted in third with $6.2 million.
DreamWorks' $20 million budget Zach Braff drama The Last Kiss has scored just $4.702 million in fourth. Sony's The Covenant is in the fifth spot in its second weekend and earned $4.7 million. In sixth is Disney's Invincible with $3.9 million.
Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel and Rufus Sewell starrer The Illusionist has collected $3.8 million. The film only cost $8 million to make Little Miss Sunshine earned $3.4 million and gained an impressive total of $46.4 million.
