Despite all the controversy and negative critics, Mel Gibson did it again. Gibson’s Mayan movie Apocalypto opened at No. 1 at the B.O. with $14.2 million from 2,465 theaters, an average of $5,746 per location, reports Variety.
Directed by Nancy Meyers, Sony’s Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black starrer romantic comedy The Holiday has grossed $13.5 million and opened at No. 2.
Warner Bros.' Happy Feet dropped two spots to third and earned $12.7 million and crossed $137.8 million totally. As usual for three weeks, thepic followed by Daniel Craig starrer Casino Royale. The pic earned $8.8 million in its fourth weekend to push its total to $128.9 million.
Edward Zwick's Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly starrer action-drama Blood Diamond opened at No. 6 with $8.5 million.
